DONNA Marathon Weekend

February 1, 2026 will be exactly three years from my last day of chemotherapy. And I thought if I could sit through 4+ hours of cold capping at time, then running for 2+ hours will be a breeze. 

I signed up for this half marathon for a handful of reasons:

1) To spread awareness! I was diagnosed at 31 years old, with no family history. Breast cancer can impact anyone, at any time. By running this marathon, I hope that every woman who my page reaches will perform a self exam and schedule a mammogram. Early detection saved my life.

2) To raise money for those families dealing with a current breast cancer diagnosis and for breast cancer research. I was fortunate that my particular type of breast cancer responds to a targeted immunotherapy drug, which only exists as a result of breast cancer research. I'm hopeful that one day in my lifetime, we can say that there is a cure for breast cancer. But in order to do so, we need to be willing to fund the research.

3) For all of the women who are currently going through breast cancer treatment. I want to be an example that there is a light at the end of the very long, very scary, tunnel. 

4) For myself. For the girl who constantly doubted if she was ever going to make it to the other side of the tunnel.
