DONNA Marathon Weekend

Before there was a marathon, there was a movement.

A community of runners came together around one simple belief: together, they could help finish breast cancer. Today, I'm proud to carry that legacy forward as part of the 20th Running of DONNA Marathon Weekend.

In October of 2022 I felt a lump in my left breast, I immediately scheduled an appointment with my doctor.  I had a mammogram on 11/17, and they requested I stay to have an Ultrasound done right then.  At that point they recommended I get a biopsy, which was performed on 11/23/22.  Then on Monday November 28th I opened my patient portal and read the words Invasive Mammary Carcinoma with ductal features.  Which I of course immediately googled (don't ever do that) and realized I had cancer.  After that came an overwhelming number of phone calls and appointments.  On 12/6/22 I had an MRI done and learned that the tumor had doubled in size since the ultrasound on 11/23/22.  On 12/15 they placed my port in, this is the device they insert under your skin where the Chemotherapy is run through.  Then on 12/20/22 I had my first of many Chemotherapy appointments.  On May 18th 2023 I had a double mastectomy and learned they were able to remove all evidence of disease and I was officially cancer free.
